Mould, Fungal and Yeast Infections in Summer: The Connection with the Humidity
The summer season brings higher temperatures and increased humidity, which we are currently experiencing here in South East Queensland and along the East Coast. The prolonged humidity creates an environment that encourages the proliferation of mould, especially indoors which can lead to sinus and respiratory infections and also some autoimmune diseases.
Fungal infections, such as thrush, athletes foot, jock itch, eczema, and dermatitis along with yeast infections, such as Candida albicans, tend to make their presence known during the summer months and if left untreated can still cause health issues during the cooler months.

Lets make 2024 the year to embrace wellness
For most of us 2023 has been a year of surviving and not thriving as we have come out of our COVID years with a lot of uncertainty, fear and caution. What used to serve us in the past no longer cuts it for us now.
Most of us have embraced our rediscovered freedom and have travelled again, enjoyed celebrating with our friends and family at restaurants and live concerts. Some of us have already begun rebooting our health journey and searching for more in the natural health space to satisfy their curiosity.
This is quiet natural for women who are in their Autumn years, our perimenopausal years. Some fear this time of our lives and some are really embracing this transition into menopause - our Winter years and then post menopause - our second Spring.

Detoxing isn't a dirty word if you do it correctly.
Detoxification is the body's natural process of eliminating toxins and waste to keep you feeling your best. This is done by our lymphatic system (spleen, thymus and lymph nodes) along with our livers, lungs and kidneys. But sometimes, our bodies can use a little extra support to handle the challenges of modern living. It is important to seek the help and assistance of a naturopath as we have been trained through our degrees to support a healthy way of detoxing.

Perimenopause and Vaginal Dryness
The not so known or spoken about health issues, such as, vaginal dryness, light bladder leakage and dry skin (all over our bodies), during the perimenopause transition into menopause is where I'm focusing on this month for my blog topic.
There is a lot more discussion and openness around the topic of vaginal dryness and vaginal irritations along with vaginal atrophy and women are becoming more proactive in getting the right treatment solutions and are seeking the help of a qualified Naturopath and other health professionals, that work in the women's health field.

What are FODMAPs and can following a low FODMAP diet help reduce IBS and/or SIBO symptoms?
A popular diet that I prescribed in clinic for my IBS clients is the low FODMAP diet. FODMAP stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols, which are short-chain carbohydrates (sugars) that the small intestine absorbs poorly.
This diet has been designed to help people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and/or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) figure out which foods are problematic and which foods reduce symptoms. Low FODMAP foods also help relieve symptoms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
I’m curious to know ‘Have you tried the Low FODMAP Diet to help relieve your digestive issues?’

Does your liver need some love?
I thought that January is the perfect time to celebrate our livers and show it some love as our livers really do work overtime especially during the holiday season and throughout the year.
There are many health conditions that are liver related that I treat on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Fatty liver disease, hormonal imbalances, weight gain, constipation, diarrhoea, tummy issues, insomnia, brain fog, itchy skin, acne, PCOS viral flare ups and cardiovascular health are some of the conditions that I work with in clinic.

Are you travelling over the holidays?
As you know, we haven’t been able to travel much over the past few years, especially internationally and this time last year our boarders were still closed! Now we’re able to travel again it can be quiet stressful organizing flights, accommodation and for some people, catching up with family over Christmas is an added stress.
